Take The Summer Plunge Into Prayer

Posted on Jul 7, 2017 in Featured

For this Season of Prayer. we are emphasizing 10 different areas of life over 10 weeks this Summer. As a Church, we are hoping to come together and take a Plunge into Prayer together. We can’t wait to see what God does. We will be giving direction each week on what and how to focus our time in prayer, both individually and together in groups. And in addition to our regular 9:30 a.m. prayer time each Sunday morning, we will be offering additional times to gather in various group settings. We know God is calling us to seek Him and we can’t wait to see how He moves in answer to our prayers.

Some may be looking for a way to refresh your own personal times of prayer each day. We’ve all probably had those times when we just draw a blank or feel like we don’t know how to pray or maybe feel like we’ve run out of things to talk with God about. A great way to approach God is through His Word. The Bible is bursting with prayers for every life situation. One of the best places to find these prayers is in the Psalms. What you do is personalize the text and use it as a guide for prayer. You can go with the text as it is, or you can paraphrase and even add your own thoughts to it. It can help to pray God’s Word out loud, but it’s not necessary. Praying God’s Word in silence can be just as powerful. The point is to connect with your Heavenly Father. This can be a wonderful way to pray and meditate on God’s Word at the same time! Over time, you will find yourself memorizing and coming back to favorite prayers that strengthen your relationship with God.

To get you started here’s a passage from Psalm 63. Just experiment with it. Read through the text first. Then go back and pray it to the LORD.

Psalm 63:1-4

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.

Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.

So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
