The Gospel of Mark: Part 4

Jim Crouch

3“Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.”

9Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

The Gospel of Mark: Part 3

Jim Crouch

1Another time he went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”

4Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

The Gospel of Mark: Part 2

Jim Crouch

1A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. 4Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. 5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2: 1-5

The Gospel of Mark: Part 1

Jim Crouch

This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began  just as the prophet Isaiah had written:

“Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way.  He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!”…

John announced: “Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals.  I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit!”  Mark 1:1-3, 7-8

Help Is on the Way

Jim Crouch

We all experience the stormy weather of life.   Each of us weather the storms differently.   Sometimes you get through the storm unscathed, but others the damage is deep and structural and you need help rebuilding.

Who’s there to help you get through?

Listen in as our friend Dale presents some very practical ways that we can be there to help others going through difficult situations, and how the Church should respond to those in need.

Humans, Doing What We think Best… for Millennia

Jim Crouch

In this message, we hear from our favorite guest speaker Marcus.

Listen in as Marcus presents some of our favorite biblical examples of man’s not-so-great ideas and the end results of thinking we know better than God.

Fortunately, these epic misjudgments aren’t the entirety of the story… listen in for the rest of the story

Mark, the AD/HD Gospel: The Forward

Jim Crouch

One of the aspects of Jesus’ teaching that, probably as intended, causes both believers and non-believers to seek better understanding of what He meant was His metaphoric approach to an idea.  Frequently,  He used this method to help us see and understand what His Kingdom looked (and looks) like.

As bit of a preview to a later  message series, Stan spends some time in Mark 2 discussing some of Jesus’ teaching about why Jesus’ disciples don’t fast, why we shouldn’t patch our jeans with a new patch and why we get a clean wine skin for our freshly pressed wine.  Listen in to find out, but my guess is it has something to do with the Kingdom…

God on Film: What Happens in Vegas

Jim Crouch

The next movie that the God on Film series deals with is What Happens in Vegas. Believe it or not,  Stan actually finds some redemptive aspects and spiritual significance. That’s all I’ll say for this one, except listen in to hear more.

God on Film: Revolutionary Road

Jim Crouch

The God on Film series continues with a look into the movie, Revolutionary Road.

In Revolutionary Roads, a married couple finds themselves in the rut of life, having lost their “true” selves to the routine and safety of the everyday life they know.  After recognizing their unhappiness, they determine to leave the life they have settled for and start fresh abroad.  But as life would have it, things don’t always pan out as planned.

To know one’s self or purpose may be the most coveted bit of knowledge ever…in all the world, even among Jesus followers.  Ironically, the desire and quest to find ourselves may inhibit our ability to actually be ourselves.  Listen in as Stan deals with this issue of knowing one’s self and purpose and how to actually find it.
